I stumbled along F150Forum as I have been researching how to replace my stock AM/FM CD/Cassette with a AM/FM CD/MP3 stock unit in my 2005 Lariat that has the steering wheel controls. I'm new here but have worked with a few Ford head units in the past including install aftermarket headunits. I would be looking for a bundled wires that have been hide away or hopefully it's intact and just tucked away? Now as you describe that your 2005 has only one, big connector and yet you have the steering wheel controls makes me wonder that the previous owner may have butchered the 2nd smaller connector in a failed attempt to use the steering controls with the aftermarket unit. Now with the connectors I'm not including the antenna, that's assumed and of course you have already noticed that in 2007 Ford changed the style and you need an adapter to make a 2007+ headunit work on a 2005 F150 As a described above that I'm looking for a 2005 headunit, in addition I'm looking for one that has only the two connectors as my 2005 Lariat has only two connectors as it does not have the Audiophile subwoofers. The one with three connectors, the third connector drives the subwoofer for Audiophile vehicles, that other smaller connector does communicate to the steering controls but not directly as it's does it by communicating on the CAN bus system though the Body Communication Module (BCM). The second thing I understand (up to now) is that there are two differnt types of head units one with 2 connectors (one big one & one small) and one with three (one big one & two smaller). Even then, I'm not sure if a dealer service trip won't be neccessary but that's the gamble I'm about to play. I stumbled along F150Forum as I have been researching how to replace my stock AM/FM CD/Cassette with a AM/FM CD/MP3 stock unit in my 2005 Lariat that has the steering wheel controls.įrom what I have learned from lurking here and seeing the variety offered on eBay is that the first advice to keep the steering wheel controls working without involving the dealer to reprogram the headunit (IF you can find a dealer service department that knows how to) is to replace the head unit with the same year unit, for example the CD 6/MP3 head unit that I'm looking for must have came out of a 2005 model ford vehicle. ThanksI'm new here but have worked with a few Ford head units in the past including install aftermarket headunits. My truck only has two plugs (stereo and antenna) and it came from the factory with the 6cd changer and working steering controls. The 07 XLT single cd one with 3 connectors + antenna does not work with the steering controls. I just would like to know what I need in an OEM deck to make sure I can use my steering controls or if any 05-06 F150 stereo with two connectors + antenna will work automatically as plug and play. I took out the aftermarket one it had in it because I didn't like the look. Again, I want to put the stock 6cd (or even 1 cd) deck on it.
